The Winds of Graystone Manor (1995)
By B J Hoff

In this "American gothic" novel set in 1867 Staten Island, a Civil War photographer has come to track down his wife's murderer.  But Roman St Clare is also attracted to his pretty and kindly landlady.  Amanda Fairchild, owner of Graystone Manor, a secluded resort hotel, tells him of bizarre events on the island.  Eventually, they discover what's going on and expose a grizzly plot.  I loved this old-fashioned story with its references to God's grace and love.  This is actually book 1 in the St Clare Trilogy, but is the only title in the library's collection.
