Ike's Bluff: President Eisenhower's Secret Battle to Save the World (2012)
By Evan Thomas

While guiding the US through a very successful economic era, Eisenhower was greatly concerned about the ongoing threat of nuclear war and brought his unique experience "through feint and bluff" to preserve the peace.  Though he wasn't perfect (prone to lose his temper and probably spent too much time on the golf course), Ike subtly and courageously worked with world leaders and with his own cabinet to forge a peaceful world during a time of cold war.  The author notes Ike's parting (and prescient) words, in a speech at the very end of his administration, to be wary of the "military industrial complex", a term he introduced.  Very interesting account of a time I lived through!

A poster published (I believe) by US News and World Report offers some wise words by President Eisenhower.  He may have made his mark as the supreme military commander of WW2, but he also values the importance of human life.
