The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Aged 37 3/4 (2005)
By Adrian Plass
Adrian starts his "diary" with the entry, "Saturday, December 14th. Feel led to keep a diary." Successive entries will chronicle how he is "led" to serve, even when he's not in the mood. For example, he writes of the occasion when he and some fellow Christians feel led to go to the local laundromat to share their faith. How relieved they are when no one shows up! (Haven't we felt the same sense of relief when we don't have to share our faith?) Sitting in church, his bored teenage son writes palindromes ("Madam, I'm Adam; nurses run); (And what do I do when my mind wanders during worship service?) The fact is, Adrian represents a lot of believers (like myself) who want to be faithful to the Lord but find that, although the spirit is willing, the flesh is indeed weak. He understands this uandary and, with facetious British good humor, helps me laugh at my weakness. Of course the good thing is that we don't have to do anything in our own strength. To quote from Paul's own experience in dealing with weakness, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
